Chris Gayle scores 53 on ODI return
London: Chris Gayle immediately left a mark for West Indies on his ODI return after a self-imposed 15-month exile, striking 53 from 51 balls after England captain Alastair Cook opted to put the visitors in at The Oval.
His aggressive innings contained five sixes and three overs and was Gayle's first ODI half-century since February 2011.

As he had done in the IPL, Gayle set himself in before teeing off. After playing out a maiden over from Steven Finn - the fourth of the innings - Gayle took three successive fours off the same bowler. Into his stride, Gayle proceeded to strike James Anderson for six in the ninth over. Next to suffer was Tim Bresnan who was hit for three sixes in the tenth over, after which West Indies were 48 for 0.
Anderson was hit for another six, and Gayle reached his half-century off 41 balls with a single off Bresnand in the 12th over.
Gayle eventually fell lbw to Graeme Swann in the 15th over, though it was next to impossible to tell whether the ball had hit bat or pad first.
